- participating in the UNEP/OECD seminar on environmental information systems in the NIS in Moscow in 1995;
- preparation of the Aral Sea Basin state of the environment report on the Internet (launched at the Almaty Ministerial Meeting under 'Environment for Europe' in 2000, and related workshops in Bishkek in 1997, Baku in 1998 and Arendal in 2000; and,
- preparation of the Caspian Sea Basin state of the environment report and participation in a workshop held in Baku in July 2001.
- participating in regional Aarhus Convention workshops organized in Ashgabat in 2000 and in Dushanbe in 2002; and,
- participating in the meeting of the Task Force on Electronic tools for the Aarhus Convention in Arendal in 2001.
Two editions of popular electronic state of the environment report have been prepared by Kazakhstan and launched on the Internet in 1999 and 2001. The reports were also published on several CD-ROMs facilitated by UNEP ('Environment in Central Asia' 2000, attachment to UNECE's 'Environmental Performance Reviews' 2000, 'Central Asia: Environment and Development' 2002, 'Environment in Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia' 2003'.
A 2nd Central Asian festival of environmental journalism and a regional media training was held in Almaty in 2002, followed by a tour of the Northern Caspian for international environmental media.
Kazakhstan has participated in data collection for the 3d pan-European assessment of the environment ('Kyiv Assessment') and supported the collection of environmental stories for the Ministerial conference 'Environment for Europe' in Kyiv in 2003.
Kazakhstan is an active participant of UNEP-UNDP-OSCE 'Environment and Security' initiative.
In 2004 Kazakhstan will host the 2nd meeting of the parties of the Aarhus Convention, an assessment of progress in Aarhus implementation is currenty under way with the suppport from OSCE and WRI.
Other partners in Kazakhstan include the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia in Almaty, media and NGOs.
