Lithuania has participated in the ENRIN programme since 1994. Some initial
training activities have already taken place in 1992. The Joint Research Centre
(JRC), the ENRIN focal point has taken an active role in UNEP's and other
international environmental information activities, such as participating in the
ENRIN workshop for the Baltic States in Jäneda in 1995, the ENRIN focal point
meeting in Warsaw in October 1995, the Internet Seminar in Arendal and BALLERINA
workshop in Stockholm in 1996, the BALLERINA conference in Riga in May 1997 and
the Rovaniemi meeting in 1998. The SoE Lithuania on the Internet was launched in
1996, Lithuania participated in the Internet Seminar in Budapest in 1998.
Currently GRID-Arendal runs a project 'Information
management system and infrastructures for the transboundary Daugava/Zapadnaya
Dvina and Nemunas/Neman river basins' (DatabasiN)
in Lithuania funded by the Swedish EPA. Participating countries also
include: Belarus, Latvia, and Northwest Russia.
