Activities


Latvia has participated in the ENRIN programme since 1994. The Latvian
Environment Data Centre (LDC), the ENRIN focal point has taken an active role in
UNEP's and other international environmental information activities, such as
participating in the ENRIN workshop for the Baltic States in Jäneda in 1995, the
ENRIN focal point meeting in Warsaw in October 1995, the Internet Seminar in
Arendal and BALLERINA workshop in Stockholm in 1996, the BALLERINA conference in
Riga in May 1997 and the Rovaniemi meeting in 1998. The first SoE Latvia on the
Internet was launched in 1996. Latvia has participated in a course on 'SoE
reporting on the Internet' in Budapest, Hungary, April 27 - May 3, 1998 and in
Arendal, Norway, September 8 - 11, 1998. As part of CEROI project for urban
environmental reporting, Riga City is developing an electronic state of the
environment report that will released online.


Currently GRID-Arendal runs a project 'Information
management system and infrastructures for the transboundary Daugava/Zapadnaya
Dvina and Nemunas/Neman river basins' 
(DatabasiN) in Latvia funded
by the Swedish EPA. Participating countries also include: Belarus, Lithuania,
and Northwest Russia.
