SELECTED DATA ON NATURE CONSERVATION

The goal of nature conservation in Hungary is the preservation of habitats in nature areas of "mild farming" and the maintenance of habitats barely affected by human interference.

The National Ecological Network (NECONET),
a new elements in Hungarian Nature Conservation.

The term (Ecological Network) is a system of spatial relations, which is realised via ecological corridors. Development of the NECONET has been initiated in 1998. A 1:500,000 scale map had been produced, which has been incorporated into the National Physical Planning Concept and is suitable for the sector harmonising process.

Detailed network development plans and the categorisation of our areas in process.

  1. An ecological network strategy has to be developed, which will be included into the National Environmental Program.
  2. The ecological network areas have to be outlined at regional levels.
  3. Detailed map of this network has to be prepared.

The Nature 2000 network, Hungarian implementation of the Birds and Habitats directives (79/409/EEC and 92/409/EEC) will be a part the NECONET (see potential network below).
