Fundamentals of historical settlements in the country are represented by immovable cultural monuments. In comparison to 1997, total number of immovable cultural monuments rose in 1998 by 63 monuments

In 1998, total number of immovable cultural monuments in evidence reached 12 455 including 94 castles and mansions, 430 manor houses.

        In accordance with the NC SK Act No. 27/1987 Coll. on State Conservation of Cultural Monuments, owner of the cultural monument is obliged to carry out maintanance and reconstruction at his own expense. The MK SR annualy provides funding covering cultural monumentsÝ reconstruction. This is done through the State Cultural Fund called ÝPro SlovakiaÝ.
