World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites in the SR

        By the end of 1998, World Heritage Committee based in Paris included 582 sites (objects) into the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site list (WHS list). 4 sites inscribed into the list can be found on the territory of the SR:

the Vlkolínec Folk Architecture Reserve
the National Cultural Monument Spišsky Castle and its neighbouring historical monuments – the Spišská Kapitula Historical Town Reserve,
   Spišské Podhradie Historical Zone and the Church of the Holy Ghost in Žehra
the Banská Štiavnica Historical Town Reserve and its neighbouring technical monuments (particularly 23 water reservoirs – tajchy)
the Natural WHSs - the caves of the Slovak karst and Aggtelek karst including 12 caves and abysses of the Slovak karst (10 of them are in the
   Aggtelek karst in Hungary):

    1. the Domica cave
    2. the Jasovská cave
    3. the Krásnohorská cave
    4. the Ochtinská aragonite cave
    5. the Slakický stream-Kunia abyss
    6. the Gombasecká and Silická ľadnica caves
    7. the Hrušovská cave
    8. the Drienovská cave
    9. the Diviačia chasm
    10. the Zvonivá hole
    11. the Snežná pit
    12. the Obrovská abyss.
Other candidates proposed to join the WHS list:

the Kysuce – Orava Switch-back Railway
the Ravines of the Slovak Paradise and the Dobšinská ice cave. Properties listed for nomination as WHS:

the Belianske Tatry NNR – Bielovodská Dolina Valley NNP (together with Poland)
the Prielom Dunajca NNR (together with Poland)
Inclusion of the Levoča Historical Town Reserve into the WHS of the Spišský Castle and its surroundings 
Wooden churches in the Eastern Carpathian (together with Poland, Ukraine and Rumania)

Wooden Protestant church and the historical centre of Kežmarok
Medieval murals in the churches of Gemer region and Abov 
Bardejov Historical Town Reserve 
Košice Historical Town Reserve
