The paper uses "METAP [Mediterranean Environmental Action Plan] indicators prepared in order to monitor the implementation of UNCSD [United Nations Convention on Sustainable Development] goals in the Mediterranean region and goals of the Barcelona Convention on the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea". The indicators are grouped into seven main categories: water, air, land use, biological diversity, forests, wastes and general indicators, which relate to factors such as demography, society and various economic sectors.
