This database table contains geographic names information covering the portion of Belarus that falls within the database boundaries. The primary data source for the data set is the GEOnet Names Server. The data set is in database table format and can be accessed directly from the CD ROM or saved to a local directory.</abstract>
<purpose>
The primary purpose for preparing the data set was to provide points and associated place names of various features in the Belarussian portion of the database extent. </purpose>

This data set is based upon the following data source: GEOnet Names Server (GNS) Publisher: National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Publication date: 2004 Publication place: USA Media: Internet download GEOnet Names Server files contain geographic names information for the world (excluding the United States and Antarctica). The files are not in customary gazetteer format, but are in a special format amenable to input into geographic information systems, databases and spreadsheets. Toponymic information is based on the Geographic Names Data Base, containing official standard names approved by the United States Board on Geographic Names and Maintained by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. More information is available at http://earth-info.nga.mil/gns/html/index.html. Use constraints: There are no licensing requirements or restrictions in place for the use of the GNS data. However, it is recommended that one use the following citation to identify the GNS as a source: Toponymic information is based on the Geographic Names Data Base, containing official standard names approved by the United States Board on Geographic Names and Maintained by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
