In addition to the country's bio-geographical position and sharp altitude variations, the occurrence of a wide range of geological ( map - geological. ) substrata and soils ( map - soil types. ) is a further condition enhancing plant diversity.

The Flora of Armenia includes approximately 3300 species of higher vascular plants

The Fauna of Armenia shows a relatively high species richness, due to the mountainous nature of the landscape (map - physical). and consequent high diversity of habitats. In addition to this, the country is located along one of the major migratory flyways, and hosts several sites of high conservation importance for migrating birds.

Recent accounts on the animals of Armenia indicate the presence of: 349 species of birds, belonging to 18 orders and 58 families, 84 Mammals, 7 Amphibians, 43 Reptiles and 28 Fish
