Air pollution

Belarus is one of the most polluted countries in Europe due to the transboundary transport of pollutants.

The state of its air is defined by the external sources (81% for sulfur and 85% for nitric oxides).

Belarus itself is not a significant source of a transboundary air pollution by this group of pollutants.
The main sources of air pollution are emissions from vehicles, power installations and industrial enterprises.

According to the 2001 data, 70% (926 800 tons) of total emissions come from road transport, and 30% (392 100 tons) from stationary sources.
