How does the industry influence environment What is being done to make the industry more environment-friendly
A procedure for ecological monitoring of enterprises during the process of privatisation has been established. As a result of these investigations the MoEW sets specific obligations to new owners in order that they meet the requirements established in environmental legislation as a condition for continuing their activities. Thereby the programmes for bringing the activities of the undertakings in conformity with environmental regulations become a condition of the privatisation contracts. At the same the State shall be responsible for funding the implementation of clean-up measures with regard to environmental pollution caused by past production activities (till the moment of privatisation) of large enterprises subject to privatisation, which ensures a major financial resource for implementing the appropriate measures.
In 2001 the board of directors of the National Environmental Protection Fund granted resources amounting 7 548 000 BGN for financing investment environmental projects aimed at limiting the emissions of harmful substances into ambient air.
In addition, 7 projects of scientific and practical interest aimed at the protection of ambient air quality have been funded.
In order to protect ambient air quality, treatment facilities limiting the emissions of harmful substances and new automated systems for emission measurement have been constructed or reconstructed at a number of enterprises, steam stations have been gasified, and new technologies and equipment have been put into operation
