Impact

TPP is the biggest source of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions.

 

 

 

The reduction of SO2 and NO2 emissions after 1998 is basically due to decreasing of electricity production.

 

 

Bulgarian agreements

Bulgaria has obligations according to the Geneva Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and its related Protocols - Oslo Protocol /1994/ and Guoteborg Protocol /1999/

 

National legislation

Directive 88/609/EC on limit values of emissions from new and reconstructed large combustion plants is transposed into the Bulgarian legislation.

 

Measures

Bulgaria has developed a National Strategy for energy and energy efficiency until 2010.

It is planed to enforce a National Program for emissions reduction of SOx and NOx from Large Combustion Plants, which are in operation.
