Agreements

According to Regulation No 9/99 on limit values of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, fine particulate matter (PM10) and lead in ambient air, time-periods (5, 8, 10 years) are fixed after which the limit values of the atmosphere pollutants should be kept. By the date when they have to be fulfilled, the allowed deviations are decreasing linearly as from 01.01.2001.

According to this Regulation, from 01.01.2005 the 1h LV (350 mg/m3) and 24hLV (125 mg/m3) should not be exceeded more than 24 times in one calendar year.

State

In 2001 in Plovdiv, Asenovgrad, D. Voden, Vratsa, and Eliseina more than 24 measurements higher than the 1h LV have been registered. The number of exceedances of 24hLV is under this limit.

Measures

According to Art. 31 of Regulation No 7, in the regions, where the concentrations of air pollutants exceed the limit values /LV/, programs should be elaborated for pollutant level decrease. There are 25 regions where such programs for SO2 pollution level decrease are under preparation.
