Waste Total waste generation and GDP Municipal waste collected and total income per capita Composition of municipal waste
The indicators are developed on the basis the available data for waste collected by the Executive Environment Agency /ExEA/ and the National Statistical Institute /NSI/.
Within the Ministry of Environment and Water /MoEW/ data on waste is collected according to the Limitation of the Harmful Impact of Waste upon Environment Act /LHIWE/, Regulation 10/98 on the filling out of the report and the waste management information documents and Order RD-323/98 of the Minister of Environment and Water and the Minister of Health on waste classification. The primary information collected from municipalities and enterprises is controlled by the respective Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water /RIEW/.
Data on hazardous waste on the entire territory of the country is collected, processed and assessed within the system of the Ministry of Environment and Water /MoEW/. Data on hazardous waste compiled by the ExEA is transmitted to the Secretariat of the Basel Convention and to the Eurostat/OECD (Joint Questionnaire).
Data on industrial, municipal and construction waste is collected by the ExEA and NSI.
The ExEA processes data on industrial non-hazardous waste, provided according to the LHIWE by persons, whose activities generate and/or treats such waste in quantities exceeding 100 kg or 0.100 m3 per day. Data on municipal and construction waste within the MoEW covers the residential areas where the main part of the population is concentrated – about 77% of the country’s population. The ExEA keeps a Register of landfills and old polluted sites.
The industrial waste survey in NSI covers mainly the industrial enterprises. The Register of the NSI is used for determination of reporting units. The municipal and construction/demolition waste survey covers all municipalities in the country. In 2001 there are 663 landfills for organized collection.
