Municipal waste collected

Figure 2 illustrates the correlation between the total quantity of municipal waste collected on the landfills for organized collection /around 620/ and on 60 of the existing landfills containing approximately 70% of the total quantity of municipal waste. Each one of these 60 landfills serves a population of over 20 000 inhabitants.

Data shows that for the period 1999-2001 the average annual quantity of municipal waste collected on the 620 landfills was 3.2 million tons and on the 60 landfillis-2.1 million tons.

A serious problem that municipal officials face is the lack of success in the separate collection of waste. Despite numerous attempts there is no municipality that collects waste separately.
