AMBIENT AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Considerably lower concentrations have been recorded in 2001 in comparison with 2000. The problem related to the transboundary ammonia transfer to Nikopol is still relevant.

Continuous trend toward decrease of the ammonia concentrations has been observed in settlements with large emission sources: Dimitrovgrad, Vratza, Nikopol, Varna, Bourgas, Kameno /Figure 24./.

The transboundary air pollution remains the main ambient air quality problem in Nikopol, due to pollutant transfers from Tournou Mugourele. The exceedence of the 24h.LV has reached levels equal to 14.2 times the 24h.LV at “OBNS” station, where concentrations exceeding the limit value have been registered in 71.9% of the days in the year.

Figure 25 shows the curve of monthly average ammonia concentrations measured in Nikopol in 2000 and 2001.
