AMBIENT AIR QUALITY ASSESSMENT

The highest concentrations for 2000 and 2001 were recorded in Kurdjali, due to the Lead and Zinc Combine’s activity. More alarming is the fact that in 2001 higher annual concentrations were recorded in Kouklen and D. Voden, which is due to the activity of KCM AD-Plovdiv.

Lead Aerosols

Total number of MS - 49
Settlements - 35

Number of stations with exceedance of:

Automated - 0
Manual - 49

Annual average LV

Continuous trend toward decrease of the lead aerosols annual concentrations has been observed in the country. Exceedences of the average annual limit value have been recorded at 3 stations with maximum concentration measured in Kurdjali - 1.6 times an.av.LV. No exceedence of the an.av.LV+AD has been registered. /Figure 20/.

Figure 21 shows the curve of monthly average lead aerosol concentrations measured at selected stations: Kurdjali/”Vesselchani”, reflecting the impact of the Lead and Zinc Combine; Haskovo/RIEW, situated close to intensive road traffic area; Sofia/”Geo Milev” district, which does not measure the impact of lead sources. Maximum concentrations are recorded in Kurdjali, due to the Lead and Zinc Combine’s activity.
