Aviation noise The degree of the noise caused by airports is defined by both the noise emissions of the aircraft using the airport and the distance of the listener from the airport. The level of impact depends on the duration and the frequency of the noise.
Aviation noise in Sofia is a serious problem due to the immediate proximity of the airport to the city, which leads to high noise levels for the population of Sofia.
Since 1998 an automatic system for monitoring aviation noise has been operating, to control the noise over the districts influenced by the Sofia Airport. The automatic system consists of the following six terminals:
Terminal “A” – monitors the territories surrounding the Sofia Airport; Terminal “B” – the territory of complex “Orlandovtsi”; Terminal “C” – the territory of complex “Slatina”; Terminal “D” - the territory of complex “Poduene”; Terminal “E” - the territory of district of “Krivina”; Terminal “F” – the territory of district of “Kremikovtsi”.
