Industrial Non-hazardous Waste
According to NSI’s data, the quantity of generated municipal waste in the country is trending downwards during the period 1997-2001 (Figure 1). A significant decrease began in 2000; by 2001 the quantity of generated waste represents 38% of the total in 1997. The main reasons for this decrease are structural economic changes, the privatisation process, and the closing down of many unprofitable enterprises.

Of the total amount of generated waste, 3,6% is municipal, approximately 0,8% is hazardous waste; while the industrial non-hazardous waste, including that from geological research, extraction and processing of mineral resources represents 95,6%.
