Is located in Abkhazia Autonomy Republic, in Sokhumi district, Bzipi River basins.
Established in 1978.
The area is 27 334 ha.
Administratively it is united with Gumista and Skutcha reserves.
The aim of the reserve is to protect the Abkhazian special kind of flora and fauna.
The reserve is famous for it's tradition of bee-keeping (apiculture).
The reserve is located in Pskhu depression it has triangles shape and boards the main Caucasians, Bzipi and Gagra mountain ranges.
The average annual temperature is 9.1 degree (January -1.6, August 23.4); the mean annual precipitation is 2284 mm.
The forest occupies 25 286 ha. The thin forest - 69 ha, meadows - 159 ha, rocks and badlands - 1538 ha, water reserve - 31 ha. Unfortunately the reserve doesn't includes subalpine and alpine meadows.
The forests of the reserve are the most natural forests in Abkhazeti. From tree-vegetation's here is ment fig-tree, silver-fir, beech, hornbeam, oak, maple, birch ect. In underforest grows box-tree, rhododendron, cherry-laurel, bilberry ect.
219 kind of vertebrates is registered in the reserve. It is mammals: wild boar, roe dear, brown beer, chamois, marten, squirrels ect. From bird: eagle, woodpecker, falcon ect. In the River Bzipi there is a lot of trend.
The territory between Pskhu and Gumista is high mountains meadows, which are used for pasture, also they are pouching: Caucasian tur, black-cock and eagle live right here. The two roads pass the Avadhara, in reserve, a lot of touristic allays, which cause difficulties to keep the regime.
