CHEMICALS:
 Heavy metals

In generally,  there is clear evidence in long-time context of large-scale impacts of heavy metals on environment and human health in the Republic Moldova.

Data on contribution of the Republic of Moldova to this paragraph are not estimated/inventoried nor reported. However, it is known, that Industry and Transport are more important economy's branches which have emissions of heavy metals.

Level of impact on the environment by industrial units are in dependens of used technologies. The heavy metals of greatest impact health - Cadmium, Mercury and Lead are widely meet in human practice in the Republic of Moldova: Cd in paints, plastics and batteries;  Hg in coal combustion, production process in cement, municipal waste; Pb as additive in petrol  etc. Emission of this elements into the environment provoques harmful effects at bio-system level and human health. In papers, which periodically are published in Republic of  Moldova there are only some sporadic information on concentrations of these elements in water, soil, food products and other objects.

Moldova's Department for Statistics has calculated the total amount of emissions from motor vehicles. For example, they lead to the conclusion that the average lead content of petrol is 0.23 grams per litre (see part Climate change).
Other heavy metals derivated from industry production as well as  Cromium, Nikel, Stanium,  and , specialy, Copper, are frequently estimated in waters and soils.

There is evidence, that socio-economic crizis reduced the level of emission of heavy metals into environment.
