The aim of this report is to assess the current
status and general needs of the environmental state
in the Republic of
Moldova. Raport is prepared for the June 1998 Ministerial conference in
Aarhus, Denmark.
Guiding assistance by EEA and assistance by TACIS programme in preparing the report is acknowledged.
The objective of the report is to help set up recent data and short information on the environment, impact of human activities and economic sectors on the environment, policies and measures for sustanable development in the Republic of Moldova.
The Republic of Moldova presented the Report TThe State and the Protection of the Environment in the Republic of Moldova and the Volume The Republic of Moldova. The National Strategic Action Plan for Environmental Protection 1995-2020 at the Sofia meeting.
This is a follow-up short report on progress in field of environment in the Republic of Moldova since the Dobris meeting - Ministerial conference in Aarhus. The report reviewed major environmental problems a specially marked for the future evaluation at Sofia conference.
This report is based largely on existing very
important materials as well as National reports on environmental state,
publications above mentioned and on Draft Environmental Performance Review
of the Republic of Moldova, prepared known specialists of UNECE in
March 1998, on other publications, mentioned in the text and part of References.
All these references are based on data collected by the Department of Environmental
Protection, National Institute of Ecology, Service of Hidrometeo, State
Ecological Inspectorate, Department of Statistics, Academy of Sciences,
other state organisations. Lack of harmonisation of data, collection,
processing data and communication problems, limitation of resources and
time have resulted in reflecting of environmental problems in any parts
of the country. For a number of topics (such as stratospheric ozone
deplegtion, chemicals, urban environment, major accidents) the data availability
in whole country is still poor. A specially problem are artificialy create
in Transnistria part, where the the access to data are temporarly stopped.
Further improvements in harmonising, monitoring
and rep[orting on the environment in the Republic of Moldova are needed
to provide a better basis for information exchange.
