NATURE, FOREST AND BIODIVERSITY:
 Conclusions and recommendations

The national objectives for nature protection policy and biodiversity management are broad, but seem too ambitious in the present economic circumstances.  They should be translated and streamlined into a realistic and stepwise plan of action.  A national biodiversity strategy and national programme defining the country's main objectives and priorities was requested by NSEPAP for 1996, but is still in the drafting stage.  The strategy should promote biodiversity inside and outside the protected areas, making it possible to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity, which Moldova has ratified.  Moldova's typical ecosystems should be protected.
