URBAN ENVIRONMENT:
Introduction

Moldova's  territory  has  a  high  degree  of antropic  utilization  of  natural  space.  About  10%  percent of the total   territory   is   occupied   by   localities   (human settlements):  4  municipies,  60  towns (urban space), 1600 villages  administratively  organized  in  925  communes and separate villages (rural space).
In cities: Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol, Bender and Cahul with  their industrial sectors  and  high  number of  inhabitants and the Ribnita metallurgical factory  and cement production  plant, the  Rezina   cement  production   plant,  the Dnestrovsc hydroelectric power plant, the Ungheni biochemical  factory, mining sites in different zones of country.
Especialy  big  sities or sities whith industrial units are the areas whith concentrated environmental hot spots.
In general aspect intensity of impact on environment last five-seven years decrease because of reducing of activities of dominant industrial units.  In present, the rapid increase in private transport and resourse-intensive consumption are major treats to the urban environment and, consequently, to human and welfare.
However, many cities are encouraging the re-use of urban land for housing, business and commercial development in order to reduce pressures on the coutryside to accomodate new development.

Major concerns for the quality of the urban environment in The Republic of Moldova are air pollution, waste, noise and trafic congestion, increasing road traffic being the most important source of these problems.

Green areas and biodiversity are  increasingly under threat due to urban development and reconstruction.

All problems linking with environment necesitates a specialy financial allocations for their threatments. However, only a small part of  projects are in action.
