Climate change mitigation and adaptation
<<   INTRODUCTION  >>
This research covers historical emissions of greenhouse gases from the main pollution sources, macroeconomic scenarios and analysis of mitigation measures.

The experts from the Academy of Sciences, Tajik Technological University, National Meteorological service, Ministry for Nature Protection, Ministry of Economy and Trade, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Energy, State Committee on Land resources, State Industrial Committee, State Forestry authority contributed to this research. Mitigation analysis was based on national methodologies and the best available information from international information sources including IPCC and UNEP.

Mitigation research includes the following anthropogenic sources of GHG emissions and removals (for the period till 2015);

  • Energy;
  • Industrial processes;
  • Agriculture;
  • Land use change and forestry;
  • Waste.

Emission scenarios “without measures” and “with measures”, and cost effectiveness analysis were prepared for those sectors. Mitigation measures are targeted to specific needs of regions, and structured by priorities.

In general, mitigation measures covers:

  • Reduction of fossil fuels consumption;
  • Energy efficiency;
  • Reduction of GHG emissions from major pollution sources (energy, industry, agriculture);
  • Rational use and conservation of forests and land resources, prevention of desertification;
  • Reinforcement of monitoring GHG emissions;
  • Reformation of national legislation and implementation of response measures.
