Approximately 7 million tonnes of various wastes are generated every year in Turkmenistan. According to preliminary estimates, household wastes make up 150 to 230 kg per one person annually, and together with the public sector these figures increase by 30-50%. The total volume of household wastes in the social sector is about 1 million tonnes a year with a tendency to increase.
The industrial wastes mostly result from construction, mining industry (dumps), petroleum refining, sanitary and household wastewater.
In Turkmenistan, specific production wastes as well as secondary raw materials include such components as cotton fluff, husk, wastes from cotton processing, waste paper, tires, broken glass, textile and grain wastes, secondary textile material, broken silicate bricks, etc.
