National report on the environmental conditions in Ukraine for 1998 prepared by the Ministry for Environment Protection and Nuclear Safety of Ukraine. Information presented in this report was provided by the following institutions and organizations: the Ministry for Environment Protection and Nuclear Safety, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Education, the State Association of Nuclear Resources, the Committee for Hydrometeorology, the Committee for Geology and Bowels Utilization, the State Committee for Land, the Committee for Water Economy, the State Committee for Forestry, the State Committee for Statistics, the State Committee for Fishery, the Council of Productive Forces of the National Academy of Sciences, the Academy of Agrarian Sciences, the Institute of Botany of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Geography of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Society for Nature Protection. Data from reports on the environmental conditions in 1998 produced by the Republican Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources of the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea, regional Departments of Environment Safety, and city Departments of Environmental Safety of of Kyiv and Sevastopol have been used. Main maps were prepared in the framework of the Ukrainian-Canadian project "Geographical Atlas of Ukraine on CD-ROM." The contents of the report were assembled by the Department of State Environment Monitoring of the Ministry for Environment Protection and Nuclear Safety. CD-ROM publication has been financed by the Regional Office for Europe of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
