The Public Environmental and Legal Information Center (“EPICenter”) was opened in Kaliningrad in the framework of the project “Increasing the Impact of Environmental Information in the Northwest Russia”, financed by Swedish EPA. The center will provide the free public access to the Internet information services and environmental library. The activity of the EPICenter in Kaliningrad is locally coordinated by the environmental NGO “EcoDefence!”. Initially 6 organizations formed the regional environmental information network so far and others are joining in. The Center’s opening event was the workshop on environmental information management, attended by 27 participants from the state, public and non-profit environmental organizations.
