  • Biodiversity in Romania 2000
2000 Ministry of Waters, Forests and Environmental Protection
Romania is rich in biodiversity (particularly in terms of large size and quality of valuable ecosystems and the quantity of some species), but has undergone a progressive loss of biodiversity as a result of human activity. Romania has demonstrated its interest in, and commitment to the conservation of biodiversity and natural areas by signing international agreements, the passage of national regulations and the designation of a large number of protected areas. In order to ensure that the existing biodiversity is maintained, and damaged ecosystems are restored, in 1996 Romania has developed with support from GEF/World Bank a National Strategy and Action Plan for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use of Its Components.
